Results 22/5/13: Zara Dampney and Lucy Boulton qualify for the Corrientes Grand Slam

Zara Dampney and Lucy Boulton continued their impressive run at Grand Slam beach volleyball events by once again qualifying for the main draw, this time the Corrientes Grand Slam in Argentina.

Following a winless tournament in Shanghai, the Brits returned to qualification with a bye in the first round. Like they did in Fuzhou, they went on to beat a pair seeded much higher themselves to earn a pass to the group stage. Their continued exploits mean that, unlike in Fuzhou where they were the bottom seeds and made to play the favourites, they’re now 29th seeds out of 32 entrants – it’s all progress!

In-form Birmingham secured a win at home to Wolverhampton Wolves in speedway, despite a late surge from British champion Tai Woffinden with a 5-1 that helped the tourists secure a point to stay top of the Elite League table. The Scottish badminton side finished the group stage of the Sudirman Cup on top too, with another double from Robert Blair.

In more racket sports, Jamie Murray was the latest doubles tennis player to advance, this time in the Power Horse Cup. Johanna Konta progressed in French Open qualifying, but no such luck for Anne Keothavong. Over at squash’s British Open, Nick Matthew and Alison Waters beat their opponents with differing degrees of difficulty, but even more home hopefuls fell by the wayside early on.
