Results 6/3/2013: Scotland’s cricketers just can’t get to grips with Afghanistan

With the Twenty20 series a write-off, Scotland’s cricket team began their ODI series against Afghanistan yesterday but there were to be no sudden changes in their form. Scotland set a meagre effort of 199-8 and their Asian opponents easily found a way to bat past it, scoring 203 for just three losses.

There was more doom and gloom in the All England badminton competition where all but one Brit dropped out of the competition after the first round. Ironically, the only one to progress further into the English Super Series Premier event… is Robert Blair of Scotland.

It’s not all bad, though! Nick Dempsey sealed the RS:X World Championships title, becoming the first man to ever achieve two wins at this level. Fellow Olympian Bryony Shaw joined him on the podium (not literally) as she claimed the silver medal in the women’s category. Elsewhere, England’s ladies football team got off to a great start in Cyprus Cup, even if the other Home Nations didn’t, Mark Cavendish helped Omega Pharma-Quick Step win the team time trial in the Tirreno-Adriatico and both junior curling teams won once again, as did Scotland’s hockey team.
