Results 5/3/2013: Croydon easily bested by Bec

Korfball matches don’t come very often on a Tuesday but Bec made sure it was business as usual as they kept Croydon bottom of the table with a 26-7 win away from home. Bec now seem cemented in the play-off positions but the teams around them do have games in hand and they face a tough away day against league leaders Trojans on Sunday.

A whole host of British players entered the qualification stages of the All England Championships but one of the surprise early exits was English singles champion Rajiv Ouseph. The top qualification seed was booted out after his first match, fading badly in the third set to India’s Sourabh Verma. There were a few good news stories, though, as partners Chris Adcock and Gabby White qualified for the mixed doubles competition, whilst White also joined Lauren Smith in the ladies’ doubles draw. Robert Blair had a mixed day, making it through men’s doubles qualification but falling at the first hurdle alongside fellow Scot Jillie Cooper.

Nick Dempsey crept ever closer to the gold medal, finishing the tenth round ahead of all his opponents in the overall standings. Bryony Shaw is also still in the hunt for a medal, currently in third. Scotland’s junior women curling team were the first team to book their place in the final with a 7-2 win against Switzerland and fencer James-Andrew Davis won a senior foil event in Russia.
