Results 5/2/2013: Mark Cavendish wins a stage of the Tour of Qatar

Clearly enjoying himself since his move to Omega Pharma-Quick Step from Team Sky, Mark Cavendish has sprinted his way to his second stage victory this year. The individual win on the third day of the Tour of Qatar means he is top of the leaderboard at the halfway point and is right behind Adam Blythe in the General Classification.

England’s women cricket team have put their bad start in the World Cup behind them to advance to the Super Six stage, beating West Indies by 6 wickets. There’s also good news for snooker’s Martin Gould, who finally progressed to the winners’ group of the Championship League after beating Stephen Maguire 3-1 in the final.

On the mountains, Chemmy Alcott got off to a slow start in the World Ski Championships, finishing 24th after her first run.
