Results 24/9/12: Nick Matthew beats James Willstrop in all-English squash final

The post-weekend lull in sport has been tempered this week with a championship win in squash. Unfortunately, the combined Irish team crashed out of the World Twenty20 without a win and England’s netball team were defeated by the “Sunshine Girls”, levelling the series.

* Nick Matthew – overcame his compatriot in a relatively straightforward British squash final
* Heather Watson – ensured her name isn’t forgotten by Laura Robson fans with a straight-sets win in the PPO
* Stuart Williams – reached the quarters of the World Singles Bowling Champs and put up a good fight before losing
* Poole Pirates – won by 4 points in the only speedway match not to be abandoned
* Joe Perry – one of many players to win 4 frames to 0… he’s only here because he beat “Long Wang”
